Animadeba 2026 Presented: A Championing of Analog Animation and Artisanal Creation

Today, the 19th edition of Animadeba, the Deba International Animation Film Festival, taking place from September 9 to 12, was officially presented. In the era of artificial intelligence and technological advancement, this year's event champions analog animation and artisanal creation processes, putting the care and value of the craft at its core. This edition will feature visits from two major international filmmakers: Špela Čadež from Slovenia and Hugo Covarrubias from Chile (Oscar nominee for the film Bestia). Furthermore, paying tribute to Basque animation, the EITB Award will be presented to illustrator and artistic director José Luis Ágreda during Friday's gala, where the feature film DEKORATUA will also be screened. In total, out of 1,467 submissions, 41 selected short films will compete across various sections, while new categories such as Animatxiki and the Youth Jury will make their debut. Rounding out the program, there will be Animadeba Lab industry sessions, masterclasses, live concerts (Sara Zozaya, Maskak, SUA), and special performances, with the films available for streaming on the Filmin platform once the festival concludes..
