His works have been warmly received in the international audiovisual world through a lyrical and poetic work. Nostalgia, contemplation, and careful detail characterize his style, making him an undeniable reference in the field of animation.<\/p>\n<p>He began his artistic training in Geneva, studying engraving, and later specialised in animation in the English city of Farnham. There he created his first short film: The Interview (1978). <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Interview <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1978). After working as a animator in Barcelona for a year, he moved to London in 1980. Since then, he has worked as a freelance in several studios, especially in collaboration with producer Richard Purdum Productions. There he directed and encouraged several award-winning film and television spots.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In 1992, he presented Tom Sweep, the first short film he signed as an author. Two years later, <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Monk and the Fish<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1994), produced by the French studio Folimage. The film won the Caesar Award for Best Animation Short Film and was nominated for the Oscar and the BAFTA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In 2000 he arrived at his best-known work, Father and Daughter, a short film that moves the viewer. He won the Annecy Festival Grand Prix, the Oscar for the best short animation film and a BAFTA award. It ended in 2004. <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Aroma of Tea<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">short piece full of symbological expressions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The leap to the feature film came in 2016 with La tortue rouge. It was a project produced by the prestigious Japanese Studio Ghibli under the auspices of its founder, Isao Takahata. This collaboration was a milestone, as it was the first international work produced by Ghibli.
