Cartography of contemporary animation

This round table proposes a collective reflection on the current situation of animation cinema, especially on short films and independent productions. From the local context — the Basque scene — the perspective is extended to the whole state and to the international landscape, analyzing connections, comparisons and shared tensions.

Participants will address the challenges facing independent creations, alternative forms of financing and production, the evolution of styles and narrative languages, and new technologies that are redefining animated practice. The role of festivals, both general and specialized in animation, will also be analysed as a platform that promotes the visibility, legitimacy and circulation of animated works. Festivals are also essential as a professional meeting point, as a curator of artistic vision and as a meeting point with the public.

The talk will involve filmmakers, programmers, producers and cultural actors, with the aim of mapping the present and future of contemporary independent animation in a diverse, critical and constructive manner.
