Animation documental

In this masterclass, the filmmaker David Baute will explain the Mariposas films process of creating and producing it. Originally conceived as a classic documentary, the project found through animation the best way to tell a humanitarian and real story.

The initial approach was based on the logic of production of the documentary: the development and research phase, the collection of testimonies and the timetable for live recording. However, the conditions of context and recording made filming impossible. This led to animation becoming the main instrument of storytelling. As a result, not only were production problems overcome, but there was an opportunity to reach a wider audience, connecting with an urgent humanitarian message.

Baute will explain the main steps in creating an animation documentary, from idea and development to post-production. It will address the possibilities of artistic and narrative production, the collaboration of mixed groups (animation and documentary), funding strategies and distribution options. Now that it's adapting to hybrid genera and new times, this masterclass will offer a comprehensive and practical approach.
