Born in Caracas in 1962, Begoña Vicario Calvo is a doctor of fine arts with a thesis on experimental Basque animation cinema. He completed his academic training at the Moscow Pilot Studio, with Tatarski and Sramkowski, and then deepened his specialization at the Vitoria Design Center.
As a filmmaker, she has produced a number of outstanding works, such as Pregunta por mí (1997), Haragia (2000), Beti Bezperako Koplak (2015, Agedakoplak kolektiboan), Areka (2016, Atxur colective) and Ehiza (2020, Hauazkena). These works have been exhibited and awarded at numerous international festivals, including the Goya Prize, the Madrid Experimental Film Award and the Zinebi Basque Film Grand Prix.
She has collaborated with other creators, such as Josu Rekalde's directed proyect Denboraren Hariak with the prestigious Multiverso scholarship. In addition, he has written numerous articles and texts on animation, and has participated in several books, such as Euskal animaziozko zinema esperimentalaren historia laburra (1998, Madrid Experimental Film Week) Mamá, quiero ser artista: entrevistas a mujeres del cine de animación (2004, Isabel Herguerarekin, Ocho y Medio), Sistiaga, el trazo vibrante (2008, Animadrid), Euskal animazio zinema (Euskal Zinema Bideo Bilera 40th year, 2017, UPV/EHU) and Cortometraje de animación realizado por mujeres en el Estado Español(2018, con Annette Scholz and Marta Álvarez, Iberoamericana Editorial).
Bego Vicario is currently a professor at the UPV/EHU Faculty of Fine Arts, where he teaches at the Master's Degree in Art and Contemporary Art (MACTP). He participates in numerous research projects, is the coordinator of the animation group Hauazkena and is an active member of the contemporary art research group Akmeka IT1278-19.
